We had a strong low level jet over us which means a tremendous amount of wind shear (winds turning with height), we had a warm front lifting north over much of the area providing plenty of warm and unstable air, we had plenty of moisture, we also had a cold front approaching from the west and the water temperatures are extremely warm in the gulf (yes that plays a role as well) All these factors combined to give us the outbreak.
