The weather has certainly been active so far this year. The warm Gulf water temperatures, the warm air temperatures in March and early April and the recent weak La Nina all play a role in the recent active stretch of severe weather. We had severe weather in Mid February, Mid and Late March and Early April. The first big event was February 15th followed by additional severe weather around the 14th of March and the 31st of March as well as the beginning of April. Severe weather can occur anytime of the year but Spring is our peak season. Georgia has had 22 tornadoes so far in 2025 and Alabama has had 49. Areas south of I-20 have been hit the most which is mainly due to closer proximity to the Gulf and where the warmest and most unstable air typically sets up. We are now in Neutral conditions neither El Nino or LA Nina. There is greater than a 50% chance that Neutral conditions will continue through the Summer and into the start of Fall.
