The 6th earliest Tropical Storm on record has formed (TS Fay)

Tropical Storm Fay formed Thursday afternoon 40 mi east of Cape Hatteras NC. Fay is moving north at 7 mph and max winds are 45 mph, mostly on the east side of the storm. Fay is forecast to move to the north or north-northeast with a faster forward speed over the next couple of days. On this forecast track, the center of Fay is forecast to move near the mid-Atlantic coast on Friday, and move inland over the northeast United States on Saturday. Some slight strengthening is forecast before Fay moves inland The main impacts from Fay will be heavy rainfall producing localized flash flooding, especially in urbanized and poor drainage areas. Rough surf and strong rip currents are also expected, and there is a possibility for a couple of tornadoes east of the storm track across Long Island and southern New England.
