Major flooding has occurred across parts of Kentucky, Virginia, Missouri and West Virginia. The hardest hit areas has been around St Louis and also in southeast Kentucky and southwest Virginia. Hazard Kentucky has been hit especially hard with the flooding. There have sadly been over a half dozen fatalities due to the historic flooding. A stationary front and "training" showers and thunderstorms have led to the flooding. Training occurs when rounds of showers and thunderstorms move over the same area over and over. The terrain across southeast Kentucky and parts of Virginia and West Virginia has also played a role in the flooding in those locations.
