.Overview...
As the remnants of Tropical Storm Fred moved northeastward into
central and north Georgia, multiple tornadoes occurred from storms
along several rain bands in the early to mid morning hours of
Tuesday, August 17, 2021. The tornadoes occurred generally east of
the center of circulation, across portions of central Georgia and
eastern north Georgia. Most damage that occurred were snapped or
downed trees and some structural.

Survey Summary:
A brief tornado spun up in a rural area of southwest Baldwin
county and tracked across the Jones county line before lifting. A
Tornado Debris Signature (TDS) was seen from the KJGX 88-D radar
at approximately 10:31 UTC (8/17). Multiple trees were snapped
along Union Hill Church Road near Kitchens Road with additional
reports of trees down along County Line Road near Piney Woods
Drive. The TDS likely resulted from the tornado affecting a
heavily wooded area between Union Hill Church Road and County
Line Road, along the Baldwin/Jones county line. Estimated maximum
winds were around 75 MPH in this area.

Survey Summary:
Based on the combination of a radar confirmed debris signature
and ground-truth damage, a brief tornado touched down near
Coleman Creek Circle just east of Hwy 27/41 (Roosevelt Hwy) in
northwest Meriwether County. After snapping several larger trees
along Coleman Creek Circle, the tornado tracked west-northwest
with additional damage (downed trees) reported between Sawmill
Road and Charlie Fuller Road. No additional damage was seen
downstream from this location and radar supports these findings
that the tornado likely lifted somewhere northwest of the
Primrose Rd/Charlie Fuller Rd intersection. Based on the size and
number of trees snapped and height of the Tornado Debris
Signature (TDS), maximum winds were estimated to be around 85 MPH,
a high-end EF0.

Survey Summary:
A short-lived tornado touched down just south of I-16 near Exit
24, and tracked north for a couple of miles just before reaching
the KJGX (Warner Robins) DOD/NWS 88-D Radar. Several boats
outside of an Academy Sports were flipped over, along with the
retail building sustaining minor roof damage as pieces of tin
were thrown into a nearby fence along Missile Base Road. One side
of a wall to a small pump-station near a well also collapsed.
Additional trees were reported down along Prospect Church Rd and
Hwy 96, just before the tornado lifted. Maximum winds were
estimated at around 80 MPH based on the damage. There was also a
Tornado Debris Signature (TDS) noted given this location s
proximity to the KJGX 88-D radar.

Survey Summary:
An EF1 tornado touched down west of Greensboro just north of Hwy
278 along Northwoods Drive. Several homes had trees snapped and
uprooted around them all along the lakeshore. One home had
several windows blown in. The tornado continued to the Northwest
along the eastern shoreline of Lake Oconee snapping and uprooting
trees around the homes along the lakeshore. In particular,
Arrowhead road and Quail Trails had numerous homes with trees
snapped and uprooted all around them. Several boathouses were
destroyed along with several outbuildings and sheds. Many of the
homes suffered minor damage with only a few more significant
damage where trees fell on the homes. The tornado continued to
the Northwest along the lake in mainly uninhabited areas until it
crossed Greenbriar Dr where many large limbs and branches were
downed. The tornado weakened as it crossed Copelan Rd into a
wooded area to the west of the road.

Survey Summary:
An EF1 tornado touched down in Madison county to the west of
Danielsville in a wooded area east of Rogers Mill Rd. The tornado
continued west northwest crossing Coley Davis Rd and Rogers Mill
Road snapping and uprooting numerous trees, both hardwood and
softwood. The tornado snapped an entire grove of pine trees in an
area east of Doe Run Rd and along Doe Run around several homes.
The storm crossed Lake Deerfield road snapping and uprooting
dozens of trees before encountering several homes and barns along
Chandler Farm Road. One home had a large tree through the master
bedroom and 2 barns nearby were destroyed. Numerous trees were
snapped or uprooted in an around the homes. The tornado crossed
Old Ila Rd. where it flipped a large camper over onto its roof and
snapped and uprooted several trees nearby. The storm crossed hwy
106 snapping and uprooting trees at its widest point. The storm
continued Northwest crossing Adams Clarke Rd, Sunray Hatchery Rd
and Frank Bird Rd causing damage to mainly trees. The tornado
damaged several homes as it approached Hwy 98 west of Ila
including one home with a portion of its roof blown off, several
outbuildings, and numerous trees. The tornado finally lifted
before reaching Homestead Road.

Survey Summary:
A tornado associated with Tropical Depression Fred touched down
in a residential area of Americus (northeast side) in Sumter
County. Damage was initially seen along Pineview Drive, just
south of Fire Station #3, where a few smaller trees were snapped
or uprooted along with a few shingles pulled of a house. The
tornado rapidly strengthened as it crossed Crawford Street/Hwy
49 and tracked along Wanda Way and Sharon Drive with numerous
medium-sized trees either uprooted or snapped halfway down. As
the tornado traveled northwest, significant tree damage was seen
between Sharon Circle and Pine Avenue. In this area, multiple one-
story homes sustained some damage with several severely damaged
from large falling trees. This is where maximum winds were
estimated around 95 MPH (EF-1 intensity). Several additional
smaller trees were snapped or uprooted along Railroad Street,
just before the tornado lifted. All told, more than 40 residences
sustained at least some visible damage in this short (less than
1.5 mile) track.

Survey Summary:
An EF1 tornado touched down in Banks County east of Homer GA,
along Bennett Road just west of Hwy 63. The tornado uprooted and
twisted off trees along a path that paralleled Bennett Road.One
home was nearly crushed by a fallen oak tree. Some of the tree
damage pointed to EF1 level winds along the road where large
groves of trees were twisted off. One homeowner recalls his ears
popping as the tornado passed by the house toppling trees on
either side of the home. The tornado continued to the Northwest
across a landfill zone before emerging across Hwy 51 and Damascus
Road where numerous trees were snapped and uprooted. Continuing
Northwest, the tornado crossed Payne Road snapping and uprooting
dozens of trees before destroying a chicken house on the north
side of Payne Road. A small trailer was toppled and thrown 30
yards to the Northwest. The tornado was at its strongest intensity
along Payne Road before beginning to weaken as it continued to the
northwest. A tree was blown down into a home along Hawkins Road
before the tornado lifted.

Survey Summary:
NWS storm survey found the path of an EF1 tornado that developed
in western Iredell County along Massey Deal Rd, just west of Old
Mountain Rd. The tornado tracked NNW, crossing Miracle Farm Rd
and Lindsey Farm Rd before crossing into Alexander County near
Smith Farm Rd south of Stony Point. The tornado appeared to lift
near Lentz Rd just west of Highway 64. Damage was almost entirely
limited to uprooted hardwoods and snapped softwoods, with the
most significant damage being a stand of pine trees on Waugh Farm
Rd that were snapped as high as 20 feet above the ground. A
couple of homes did receive very minor structural damage.

NWS storm survey confirmed a low-end EF1 tornado in Mauldin, SC.
The tornado touched down near the intersection of Brooks Rd and
Highway 276. The tornado crossed Highway 276 shortly after
touchdown, moving NNW roughly paralleling the highway for over 2
miles before lifting near the intersection of Old Mill Rd and
Forrester Dr. Damage was primarily limited to multiple uprooted
large hardwoods and some snapped small softwood trees. However,
minor damage to roofs and some siding damage was noted to several
structures, primarily between Miller Rd and Forrester Dr.

Survey Summary:
NWS storm survey confirmed an EF1 tornado in extreme northern
Laurens County, northeast of Fountain Inn. The tornado touched
down east of Pennington Rd, just north of the Scuffletown Rd
intersection. The tornado tracked NNE, crossing the southern end
of Ritchie Rd, across Pollard Rd and Highway 418, apparently
lifting just west of Thackston Rd. Damage was primarily limited
to multiple uprooted hardwoods and some snapped softwood trees.
One of these trees fell on and damaged a home on Ritchie Rd. A
shed was also destroyed and a home received minor roof damage on
Highway 418 just east of Pollard Rd.

Survey Summary:
A brief, weak tornado touched down along Warwoman road in eastern
Rabun County. Several trees were uprooted on the northern side of
the road, with damage continuing into the woods north of the
road. It was impossible to determine how far into the woods the
damage extended due to the rough terrain and inability to access
private property, so the path length is likely incomplete.
