New world records have been set for lightning strikes.

Lightning is hotter than the surface of the sun and can reach temperatures around 50,000 degrees. On average, there are 217 million lightning strikes annually across the US and 235 billion across the world. New world records have been set for lightning. The longest recorded lightning strike traveled 440 miles in Brazil in October 2018 according to the World Meteorological Organization. The longest duration lightning flash was 16.73 seconds in Argentina in March 2019. When Thunder Roars Go Indoors. Don’t go outside for at least 30 to 45 minutes minutes after thunder or lightning.
