Hurricane Laura recap

Hurricane Laura made landfall at Cameron Parish Louisiana around 1 AM August 27th, 2020 with Max winds of 150 mph it was a strong category 4 hurricane. Laura was the strongest land falling hurricane in Louisiana on record tied with the 1856 storm that hit the community of Last Island. Laura is tied for the fifth strongest storm to hit the United States. The highest wind speed before equipment failure at Lake Charles Airport was 133 mph. Some other areas in and around Lake Charles record gusts closer to 137 mph. Preliminary damage estimates are around 8 to $12 billion. The people of Southwest and southern Louisiana continue to need prayers as they begin the clean up and slow recovery after the storm. This storm is a reminder the real struggles continue long after news and weather coverage ends. The storm also knocked out the radar at Lake Charles. The storm completely destroyed the Lake Charles weather radar. Hurricane Laura led to flooding across much of Arkansas and Louisiana. There was also several tornadoes in Louisiana and Arkansas.
