Greek alphabet will not be used for future hurricane names, 2021 storm names list and retired storms

The World Meteorological Organization Hurricane Committee has agreed that the Greek alphabet will no longer be used to name tropical cyclones because it created a distraction and caused confusion during the active record breaking 2020 Hurricane season. If a regular list of names are all used, a new supplementary list will be used. Below is the 2021 storm names and the supplemental list of extra names. The first storm name of the 2021 Hurricane season will be Anna followed by Bill and Claudette. Dorian and Laura as well Eta and Iota have all been retired due to the severity of those Hurricanes and loss of life. Hurricane Dorian hit the Bahamas and other areas in 2019 as a major hurricane and Hurricane Laura hit Louisiana in 2020. Eta and Iota both hit in 2020. Dorian and Laura's names will be replaced with Dexter and Leah. Hurricane Season officially starts June 1st but most of the time a storm forms a little before the season. The National Hurricane Center will start issuing outlooks in May of this year.
