The biggest and main factor for lack of activity in the Atlantic basin so far is dry air and Sharan dust. Storms need rising air and moist air to form. There has also been some wind shear preventing storms from developing. High pressure typically over Bermuda is farther north this year. Hurricane season ends November 30th.
