According to the National Interagency Fire Center, Ten new large fires were reported yesterday: three in Washington, two each in Montana, Oregon and Texas, one in Idaho. Currently, 70 large fires and complexes have burned 1,673,900 acres in 14 states. More than 11,000 wildland firefighters and support personnel are assigned to incidents across the country. Critical fire weather with dry and very windy conditions in parts of the Northwest, Great Basin and Northern Rockies areas will increase the potential for wildfires. Wildland fire managers are prepared for possible thunderstorms across Oregon, northern Great Basin and southern Montana that could ignite very dry fuels. During this critical time of year, please be aware that one simple spark has the potential to cause a wildfire. Across the United States this year, people caused more than 35,000 wildfires. It remains very dry across parts of the northwest and western United States and especially parts of the southern plains. Texas has been extremely dry and very hot this year. Dallas Texas has had over 30 days in the triple digits and has had around 60 days without measurable rainfall.
