Beyond The Forecast: Two different types of Lightning

There are two different types of lightning strikes. Negative strikes that come from the bottom of the cloud and positive lightning that leaps from the top of the cloud. Negative strikes typically carry 300,000 volts with about 30,000 amps. A positive lightning bolt will be a billion volts with 300,000 amps. Positive lightning strikes are the ones most responsible for fires especially house fires. Lightning is also about 5 times hotter than the surface of the sun, about 50,000 degrees! Remember when thunder roars go indoors!
