Vaisala recently did an analysis of most lightning prone places. Vaisala says Oklahoma has had more lightning flashes per square kilometer than any other state in the United States over the past couple of years. Oklahoma and Florida are very close with 83.4 lightning flashes per square kilometer averaged over the past five years in Oklahoma and 82.8 in Florida. Louisiana come in third place nationally, averaging 71.9 events per square kilometer per year. Singapore has a lot of lightning as well 126.6 events per square kilometer per year. Georgia averages 40.1 events per square kilometer per year. Alabama averages 39.8 events per square kilometer per year. Tennessee averages 45.5 events per square kilometer per year. Mississippi averages 56.7 events per square kilometer per year and Texas averages 58.1 events per square kilometer per year.
