Active 2020 Hurricane season ahead? It is possible but why?

Hurricane season begins June 1st but outlooks are released well ahead of the seaosn. Most outlooks are pointing towards an ABOVE AVERAGE ACTIVE season with more activity than normal. Colorado State University released their outlook it calls for 16 named storms, eight hurricanes and four major hurricanes. Their outlook is above the 30- year average (1981 to 2010) of 12 named storms, six hurricanes and three major hurricanes. A major hurricane is one that is cat. 3 or higher (115mph winds or higher). There are 2 main factors that suggests an above average active hurricne season this year. 1. Warmer than normal sea surface temperatures especially in the Gulf Of Mexico and 2. A La Nina could develop later this year and that typically favors more activity in the Atlantic basin the 6th picture below explains why.
