Beyond The Forecast: How much snow does the Smoky Mountains average in a year?

Writer's picture: Brandon ShippBrandon Shipp

At Newfound Gap at over 5,000 feet high the area typically sees around 69" of snow. The higher elevations are also much colder than the towns around the Smoky Mountains it can be much warmer in Pigeon Forge and Sevierville and is often much colder up around Newfound Gap, Clingmans Dome and Mount Leconte. Elevation makes the difference (A big difference).
